- The distance on the signs for Victor Harbor grew less and less until I finally drove into the town and up the main street with its historic, old-style buildings and the towering Norfolk Island Pines along the shore-front, the town's long pier extending way out into the wavy blue ocean waters. Driving up to the house where Samantha's parents lived in their retirement, we all got to work unloading the antique furniture and removing the old furniture that was to be donated to charity.
- It was quite interesting spending the afternoon with Samantha's parents. While Mum, Dad, Courtney and I were a nuclear family where the parents, son and daughter were skinny with brown hair and brown eyes, Samantha and her brother Chris along with their parents were all overweight, with blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin, sort of an inverse of us.
- A similarity in the two families was that while that the daughter had gone to university -- Courtney to be an accountant and Samantha a teacher -- the son had pursued a trade, me a landscape gardener and Chris a carpenter. These skills were put to use as Chris helped his father with some shelving, and I advised Samantha's mother on their garden.
